Architectural heritage

Today while travelling, I was reading a book and it had a beautiful picture of one the most famous temple towers of India. Almost all the Hindu temples in India have a temple tower, known as ‘Gopuram’ in Tamil. Gopurams are very unique to Hindu Temple architecture of the Dravidian style. This was developed in the south of India.  The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamilnadu is the tallest Hindu Gopuram in the world. The best thing about the temple tower is its architecture. All the beautiful sculptures, the pillars, the arches makes it special. The height of the gopuram and the popularity  of a temple is directly proportional.

India is known for its brilliant architecture. Do I even need to mention the Taj Mahal??!! Well, there are lots and lots of minars, towers, mahals (palace), castles, forts, temple towers in India. And the amount of work and skill that would have gone into making these wonderful architectural beauties is simply commendable. One could spend hours simply looking at these works of architecture. I think I am a great fan of the ancient Indian architecture compared to the latest. It makes me feel proud to be a part of a country which has such a magnificent heritage.
